📣I will pick 5 retweets and comment on what they triggered
🧘🏾♀️I will recommend one super-awesome person to a community guru-list and tell you why - who is it this week?
🔬Cool tool - I will pick one community tool/app I tried and tested
NEW! 👉 🔥Community trends brewing
🙂 I will cover something more philosophical about community.
📣 5 favourite retweets with comments:
1. Content collectives turning brands
I totally agree, and in combination I think brands will increasingly be very personal. If @lijin @nbashaw and the rest of the crew would “disappear” under a brand, the whole thing will loose magic - the passion economy will see many many “MOTOWNS” but they all need their Diane Rosses and Marvin Gayes to stay relevant.
2. Growing and learning through community is completely underrated
It can appear easier and better use of time to learn alone. But every time I engage in a community I take quantum leaps. Example: yesterday I was part of a small panel led by Nisha Ramchandani Axilor ventures (Indian VC) where I had the privilege to spend 1 hour discussing with some really impressive founders of community platforms. Very challenging and very fun! Learned so much in that hour.
3. SWARM2020 is on!
The peeps at SWARM are bringing it. Vanessa Paech and posse are bringing perhaps the community conference. Want grow your community thinking - be there 🏄♂️
4. During times of stress, we become more of who we are, not less
I am a firm believer in the company operating as a community. When the company operates as a community it is natural to go remote or hybrid (some office, some remote). How you achieve culture online, depends very much on how you use tools at hand. Just as the hammer shapes the brain, features can shape the culture - and ultimately your community. This tweet packed a lot culture thinking into one post - like a dark dark espresso early in the morning 🙃 Thanks for the jolt - Karen Eber 🙏
5. Many tools out there, I see…
What should I do? Well, what do you want to do? Choosing any tool requires you to ask what you want to achieve with what means for who?
Do you want to start fast?
Is your community a community of really driven geeks or are people more loosely engaged from the start
Will you spend millions or are you opting for SAAS? (leading question, I know 😇)
Thanks Mac Reddin for doing the impressive tool compile! 🙏This tweet made me even more aware of a need help people choose the right tool (post coming)
🧘🏾♀️ Guru-list this week - Rose Barrett
Rose lives the local remote life for real in Galway, Mayo. To me following Rose’s tweets shows how digital community can have a huge impact on local community. Check more on growremote.ie Thanks for the continuing inspiration for local community Rose! 🙏
🔬Cool tool - airmeet.com
The panel discussion above 👆 was run on this tool and founder Lalit Mangal was in the call. The tool solves a LOT of the tasks you need solving really well
There is a backstage where you can gather your speaker channel, the easily flip the backstage into the live stage where you can meet the audience
Easy to support with emojis
Nice event count-down
Social lounge feature
(I know the difficulty in this. We added safe video calling on haaartland before summer, but this is another level in UX and another use case - get events to function online - very useful now under Covid)
New item 👉 TRENDS brewing 🔥
🔥 Icebreaker capacity between members
Very important features now being pushed by e.g mentioned airmeet, icebreaker.video. Features that are aimed specifically at making members talk.
🔥 Voice as medium for community
Yes, voice is very organic, very close. Dabbling with one impressive solution on a community Blake has set up on Yac.
🔥 Helping community builder succeed - practically
Community builders, passion economy creators, influencers - we all need help getting s*** done. There are a range of awesome tools being build here. Will dig more into this in a coming post.
🙂 philosophical about community
We are all witnessing covid, social unrest and a great deal of fear at them moment. There is a lot of talk about “justice” And those who do this talk often - as history has shown us again and again - tend to end up as the new masters. The inequality might be very real indeed, don’t get me wrong, but again: There are people who use it to polarise for own purpose. This goes for both left and right. Community has a potential to counteract this. It has the potential to show that we can all join - small scale - under a common why. Regardless of differences. Building together.
Cheers - and take care out there! 🙏
Like this? then…
And may the community be with you 🙂
